#344: so not mahjong
Bridge Camp lasted from 4.30pm Friday, to 7.00pm on Saturday. i skivved off at the following timeslots:
- arrived at camp at 5.45pm Friday, as Pre-U Sem meeting ended very late.
- disappeared from 7-8+pm, still Friday, for RJCSB's Play, which was hilarious. had fun with the directs who showed up, and ex-batchmates :D
- Saturday 1-4pm for Shakespeare24 rehearsals, during which The Mechanicals were reduced to watching obscene online videos.
- 6+pm, to rush down to Yishun Building to catch the bus for the prayer drive.
sleeping arrangements (for girls, as the sexes were separated as usual) were a largish platform by pushing classroom desks together, a well-ventilated (though not air-conditioned) classroom, and sleeping bags. i was flat out after being taught Openings, by 1am. i was one of the few that slept till breakfast.
and we played alot of games (Tournament). mind-racking, skill-challenging games, of course.
i think Bridge camp has scarred me, because i know it will be difficult for me to forget today's wrong opening of 2Clubs with 14 pts, 5-card Clubs & no Diamonds that somehow ended up as 4Spades. we lost, 4 down. :S

- I, along with Zhener and John Cheo, are officially in charge of the multimedia presentation (plus techies Nicholas Leong and Ryan Teo)... what the hell have we gotten ourselves into?
- the overarching theme, as vomitted out by Zhener, and for lack of a better idea and sufficient time to brainstorm, was put down as "Lend a Helping Hand, Peace Throughout the Land". the MJ people actually took us seriously, and replied "Perhaps the team could consider rephrasing the latter half of this slogan – the reader might misconstrue this as an attempt to parody particular aspects of our Singaporean culture." LOLLERS.
kudos to the new acer, yet another instalment of photographs are here for your viewing pleasure. theme: First Few Shots From My New Nokia, Yay.
1. Charles, languishing on my bed.
2. Rachel Chloe Chua, the first human to be photographed on my 5610!
3. Good Friday.
4. Ex-classmate: LINBOX, the only PRC ever to set foot into 09S07A.
5. Ex-classmate: SAMBOX (real name = Nicolas), who's basically Very Funny.
6. Ex-classmate: Vincey, who was my H1 Physics buddy, but ditched me to take H2 :(
7. Some 09S07A-ers, 'trying to look normal' (as i ordered them to).
8. Again.
9. I wrote my name in Chocolate fondue at a buffet.
10. This too, in chocolate.
11. Not to forget my class, which was having a BBQ at the time I drew this.
12. I survey the carnage. pity the washers.
13. And never forget, MT02 :D
14. The birthday cake. notice the candle on the left? my father's responsible for that.

#340: 3.2 MP
sometimes, i think this laptop is jealous of the new one. ever since the new acer moved in, this hewlett packard has been Plain Stupid.
on a side note, abbykay, wenqi and i have been concocting noxious scripts again, for some Fast&Fresh scriptwriting competition where winners get to go to AUSSIELAND to compete. it's quite bad, in a way that we like it. this play has a Soap Opera in a play which is entitled "The Hurtling Windows of Men and Women", as inspired by the Hong Kong drama serial "Revolving Doors of Vengeance". and i named this play as well (like Love Me Hate Me Kill Me Now); it's called dual//duel, and the fancypants design that i've envisioned should make it look less cheesy.
i still want to toss this HP and watch it HURTLE out my WINDOW.

#339: Irritants
2. Parentals, as usual. it's their job anw.
3.
4. Oi, You!
5. 'souveniers' from Sibu. slightly dehydrated, peeling skin, flaking scalp, tan (permanent? - i hope not)
6. Missing people. both verb and adjective. as a verb, the fact that i MISS PEOPLE = irritating. as an adjective, the fact that PEOPLE ARE MISSING (e.g. Mas Selamat) = irritating, especially when everyone tries to crack jokes about it.
7. my conscience, poking me in the ribs
8. obligations (that i am obligated to fulfil)
9. being a stupid, hopeless, romantic fool. being a girl.
10. I found out this week that my HCL O-Level Scores GO ONTO MY A-LEVEL CERTIFICATE, OMS. goodbye, harvard.

#338: Abigail has survived ALPs
Scalp:
My parting (to the Neanderthals, it's the strip of scalp that runs down my head) got sunburnt on Day 2. By morning Day 4, huge crusty lumps that felt like the Alps formed on my scalp - which came off as yellow sticky crystals or disintegrated into grimy yellow powder when i couldn't take it anymore and scraped them off during Me-Time. so now whichever area of my scalp isn't bloody and blistered, monstrous brown flakes (that bear an uncanny resemblance to cornflakes)... flake off. my scalp = every avid-dandruff-picker's haven!
Hair:
it basically CLUMPED, a mixture of sea, salt and oil. so when we finally got toilet access on the last night, i scrubbed it so thoroughly i used up the entire bottle of shampoo. then when i got home i used to much conditioner that now i can't stop touching my cotton-soft hair.
Face:
kenneth calls it "charred"; momo says i look like "a straits-chinese" (he's partially right); assorted others describe my colour range from "damn brown" to "damn black". only my ALPs friends holler, "WAHLAO ABI YOU SNOW WHITE" at me in the corridors, just because the rest of them can now pass off as dark Malays, at the very least.
some parts of my face flake as well.
Eyes:
reddish. i think they're sunburnt. fabulous.
Nose:
brownish, reddish, loaded with blackheads and shit. oh, and it's peeling.
Lips:
because of dehydration, by Day 3/4 everyone's lips went turgid. they blistered, bloated, hardened and peeled. OUCH, and the sandy, salty 1.5l bottle was passed from lip to lip.
Neck:
SAFE. because i slathered on sunblock, and because of my hair.
Arms:
i got smart and rolled my sleeves up above my shoulders during kayaking, so now i'm a good deal of shades darker, and my tanline has moved to a more presentable spot. however i have started breaking out in these peely-white spots of chickenyskin. ews.
the knuckles on my right finger tore when i went "turtle" (or "tortoise"? cant mmbr which) during abseiling, and smashed into the rock. i go to school with them wrapped up, in muay-thai boxer fashion.
Torso:
nevermind.
Legs:
also very dark now (i can compete with the swimmers), somewhat rosy. my tanline has also moved up a fair bit. thigh started rashing like mad and now have poxy thingalings. my shin has a gash, also from slamming into the cliff during my descent. i don a dramatic plaster that proclaims "OMG SHE'S INJURED", only because it's the only one available at home.
Feet:
owowowow. the tops didn't get that badly sunburnt, but i have a blister somewhere. my feet are still swollen with water-retention (because of dehydration), and i couldn't bend my chubby toes a few days ago. my soles still sting, and i can't stand on flat ground (or really wear... shoes. eh.), so once again i ambled about the campus today. i almost got thrown out of the library for unsuitable footwear, TWICE, but on both ocassions i gave the librarians the most pitiful hobble i could muster.
more on ALPs the next time, and hopefully i'll be able to get my hands on some photos. before i turn in, 2 parting thoughts:
1) Important Lesson #1 - CLEANLINESS IS RELATIVE
2) I adore my ALPs friends, the crappiness, the teasing and all.

Concrete girl,***
Don't fall down
In this broken world
Around you.
Concrete girl,
Don't fall down
Don't fall down
My concrete girl.
the Nokia 5610 (blue) isn't my ideal phone (which, at the moment, i'm also not sure what it would be), but it's hunky-dory, and you've gotta admit, it's rather... snazzy. yes, snazzy. it's a snazzy, multi-functional, 3.2megapixelcamera-ed, Citybloxx-ed, 1GB-ed brand new Nokia phone (where i can shove iTunes spillover), so i can't complain. besides, papa caved in and finally let me switch to some Singtel iOneplus Student plan (i think), so i get 500 SMSes (from my 360), FREE INCOMING CALLS (omg, i've never had this before!), and last but not least.... 20 glorious MMSes!
yes, i get MMSes! my MMS-retrieval-from-the-internet days are OVER. O-V-E-R!!!
***
this could be my last post for until after the 18th of march.
this could be my last post for...ever.
I am terrified of the Sibu trip. I didn't expect it to happen to me, hah (even though I did sign up, and go for the selection tryouts and etc).
The instructors did nothing to alleviate my fears. in fact, i think they made my fears more and more... un-unfounded.
1. they hardly gave us any INFORMATION - exactly where, when and how we are getting there. initially we all thought it was Sibu in East Malaysia, but only recently i discovered it is to be the Sibu Islands in Johore ("Sea Gypsy Village, Pulau Sibu"). then, i only found out TODAY that we had to report tomorrow (where?) at 7.30am... and, in what attire? - NO ONE KNOWS, because NO ONE TOLD US.
2. the main instructor guy basically summed up the activities as: "Very challenging", "extremely intense", "more challenging than usual", "at one with nature" - and we're supposed to know what to expect from this evaluation. to me, the message he seems to be sending out is: "HARH we'll make all you namby-pambys SUFFER MUAHAHAHA"
3. and the main instructor guy again, told us "Whatever can happen, we're going to let it happen."
"If you run out of rations, we'll just let it happen."
"If you decide to set off for an expedition at 3am, we'll just let it happen."
"If you kayak halfway and get caught in a storm, we'll just let it happen."
and "We will only intervene if we deem the situation to be particularly threatening."
o-kay. please pray that i get back from my Sibu trip (14th-18th) in ONE PIECE, none the worse for wear physically and emotionally.
:(
i miss civilisation already.

#336: I hate them phoneys.
the best bit is that i spoilt it in exactly the same way as i spoilt my Nokia 7370.
so my father dug out an Extremely Old Model which basically... sucks. for one, the keypad works only when it feels like it. then when the auto keypad-lock kicks in, i can't unlock it and saoifnapicnpiacn.
but! i'm heading out in 5 minutes to Causeway Point's Singtel & Nokia wossname to get finally get myself a new! permanent! phone! (which i resolve not to spoil, unless complete necessary). of course i'll nab a better plan too.
YESSSSSSSSSS.

#334: Spectables
Mum: I want you to make a new pair of spectables.
Me: Wha-? It's only a week! I can get another box of Dailies.
Mum: I want you to make a new pair. Your current ones are flighty.
Me: .... ???!!!
Mum: And please have frames this time.
Me: .... ???!!!
and Voila, i get these spectables (respectable spectacles), which, IMO, makes me look old, matured, mugger and geeky. but i can bluff myself into believing that they look somewhat... intellectual and artsy, i guess.
i miss my Frameless wossnames.

#332: NEW
er, i can't decide whether i like it or not. but currently i'm still attached to the laptop that will now come to be known as the OLD LAPTOP - in my family, things are labelled according to relativity. and i'm not entirely sure whether i prefer Windows Vista or not. well okay it does have its merits (mostly aesthetic). - but i'm the paradoxical sort who yearns for change, then craves familiarity again (then ANGSTS about it). so okay, i'll get used to this new computer (even though ALL my documents, pictures and music are stored in the other one), besides, WHO WOULDNT WANT A NEW COMPUTER ANYH- Oh.
Oh!
OMG.
I've just opened the GAMES folder, and it looks Mighty Fine.
Heigh-ho! i'm off to explore and appreciate my new Acer (even though some Firewall, that doesnt seem to exist, insists on cutting MSN Messenger off from the outside world :/)
And By The Way,
♠ i have Shakespeare 24 auditions tomorrow, and i hope my acting abilities land me in a role better than that of a FAIRY.

#331: Everyday, I ask myself, "WHY ME?!"
during today's lecture, Ms Ng took another vicious swipe at HC - honestly, i have nothing against them, but the way Ms Ng spites them is hilarious - "It's the really difficult questions that distinguish us from the average students. ... Like those along Bukit Timah".
later on she digressed to seed us with her view of Mas Selamat & the Singapore government, causing Abbykay and i notice a distinct trend: Good History Teachers Tend To Have A Negative And Cynical View Of Our Singapore Government.
today during a toilet trip, i Contemplated. yes, amongst many productive things one can do in the toilet, Contemplating is one of them. so i Contemplated as i wrestled with tucking in my blouse (confound puffy white blouses and pleated skirts!), and i came to this startling conclusion: You Are A Bloody Big Loser, Kthxbye. - because i couldn't think of anything remotely positive to say about you, oh dear.
btw, have i mentioned that i pulled out of Council nominations quite a while ago?
- okay, i mention it now.
and let me now tell you what transpired last Thursday:
Thursdays end at 1610hrs because of two hours of chinese. this means that 7A-ers who do not take chinese get let off at 12+.
that thursday, i had yet to revise for math lecture test, and finish my SEA term paper. furthermore, i was in dire need of sleep, seeing as i slept later than 12mn since that monday.
it left me with no choice, except to sacrifice the opportunity of rediscovering my cultural roots. so i marched right down to the General Office and wrote a quick note to some lady.
that's how i pulled out of H1 Chinese, and that's how i managed to get home earlier to rest/read/complete term paper.
(i still go for classes - my conscience keeps me there)
last thing before i leave:
RJ KIDS, BUY YOUR RJ BADGES FROM THE RI POPULAR BOOKSHOP.
i finally procured an RJ badge from the freshly-stocked RJ bookshop. it's flimsy, with an upsidedown ("so it won't break so easily!" - Bullshit.) & fragile looking pin. it cost me dearly: $1.60 and alot of effort it getting it pinned on properly.
on my way home at three plus, i popped by RI Popular to kaypoh, and finally bought myself another RJ badge. this one is SOLID & STURDY, with a pin i can put my faith in. and, it COSTS $1.15.
i kena scam.
the RJ RJ-badge is a sorry excuse for a badge. in my opinion, the school crest that students proudly don should carry as much weight as its reputation. hence, Timothy's suggestion to me today was a good one: "Why not pull the RJ crest off the main gate and wear it instead?"

#330: "...it didn't get political on you"
(a) overwhelmed by the exhiliration of Freedom, because IT'S THE WEEKEND, plus it's the weekend before the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL, and because i've survived my Killer History-Papers-And-Lecture-Tests week
(b) very tired, very sleepy, very weary.
(c) playing bridge
(d) had loads to say about brazen (despo) lasses and Irish boys, but decided it wasn't very necessary
(e) IMing.
school this week was, o-kay. i've learnt quite a few things - in lessons, about others, about myself. in retrospect, this week wasn't very o-kay, actually, with more downs that ups (and horrific revelations). but somehow, no matter how shitty your week has been, all it takes is for a decent Friday to make up for the rest of it - and thankfully my Friday salvaged it all.
things began to look up from the SEA tutorial onwards, because i realised that even though JC History is murder, and the even though the content seems rather boring, I ACTUALLY LIKE HISTORY. A Hell Lot. okay, I LOVE HISTORY omg. perhaps it's also to do with the fact that SEA tutorials are full of Ms. Ng, who has an ephiphany every 10 seconds, who can't stop herself from exalting Ho Chi Minh, who is witty and completely down-to-earth, and who is hilariously pro-Raffles.
Ms. Ng: Okay, tell me, who is the enemy?
Us: Err...
Someone: Colonial powers?
Ms. Ng: No! You've got to get this clear guys, who is OUR enemy?
Me: err, the Communists?
*class laughs*
[now, DO NOT PROCEED if you are not mature enough to handle a little friendly competition]
Me: OHHHMG ... *ephiphany* HWA CHONG?!
[the rest of this conversation has been removed as it is a matter of National Security]
and she said something nice to me later on in the lesson,
Me: *something uncharacteristically intelligent*
Ms. Ng: Yes, exactly! Well done.
Me: Oooh, so does that get me to Harvard? (i was referring to the History trip)
Ms. Ng: Well, keep doing that for 2 years and it will.
and so my friday got better, kinda, even with the sai kang-ing after school. remember the DramaFest posters I religiously plastered around the school? well, they had to be taken down, so the publicity com - now reduced to a grand total of 2: namely Josh (pubs head) and I - went to tear the remaining notsofew posters down. so we wretchedly began peeling them off the canteen tables (there were TWO on each table), each rip in the scotchtape/paper/plastic leaving scars on our hearts (our HANDIWORK! gone!). but thank god for FRIENDS, who took pity on my plight ("Hello, I'm Abigail, and welcome to my glamourous life as a RP thespian") and helped me remove quite a few advertisements. TANKYEWP (in order of appearance): Zhefei, Ewen, Yikai, Chris, Yen Lin & Friend, Cheryl Teo, Lihua, other random people & Jia Hao.
after which, i had A Talk with Jia Hao. about boys and girls, love and life, and chicken wings. then i met some fun classmates (one almost killed me with a roll of plastic), and dragged them to Bridge with me (with Uncle Vanya trailing behind, lost in the world of pata-pata-pata-pon).
that was Friday, the best day of my week.
though Wednesday, where I had PreU-Sem (we gossiped while 2 people worked on the proposal) & Indian Rangoli (pics later).
so you can guess how great my week really really was.
(P.S. Happy Belated Birthday TIMO!!!)
